Recipe – Tawa Pomfret

Butterfish has a creamy texture and fine, flaky white flesh that is not only simple to prepare but also tasty!

Ingredients

  • Pomfrets whole, cleaned 2 medium
  • Salt to taste
  • Lemon juice 1½ tablespoons
  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder ½ teaspoon
  • Hung yogurt ¾ cup
  • Ginger-garlic paste 1 tablespoon
  • Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon
  • Red chilli paste 1 tablespoon
  • Oil 1 tablespoon
  • Butter as required
  • Lemon slices for garnishing

Method

Step1. Place the pomfrets on a plate and make incisions on both sides. Sprinkle salt, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 12 teaspoon chilli powder, and turmeric powder on both sides, and rub well. Allow for 5-10 minutes.

Step2.  Place the hung yoghurt in a mixing bowl. Mix in the ginger-garlic paste, remaining chilli powder, garam masala powder, chilli paste, salt, and lemon juice. Mix in 1 tablespoon oil.

Step3. Toss in the marinated pomfrets and coat thoroughly. Set aside for 25-30 minutes to marinate.

Step4.  Melt some butter in a nonstick skillet. Shallow-fry the marinated pomfrets, turning sides occasionally, until the fish is cooked and evenly done on both sides.

Step 5. Arrange on a platter to serve. Serve hot with lemon slices and garnished with coriander leaves
